Helical Pier Installation

When a foundation has settled due to weak, saturated, or expansive soils near the surface, piers must be driven below the problem soil zone to reach competent bearing strata. Helical piers—galvanized steel shafts with welded helix plates—are screwed into the ground like a giant bolt using hydraulic torque equipment, allowing precise installation in tight spaces with minimal excavation. The installation torque is continuously monitored and directly correlates to load-bearing capacity, giving engineers a reliable, real-time confirmation that each pier has reached its target depth and resistance.

Once all piers are installed to the required depth and torque, a steel bracket is fitted to the existing foundation footing and the structure is hydraulically lifted to the target elevation. This process can recover significant settlement and, in many cases, return the foundation to within a fraction of its original elevation. Because helical piers can be installed by small equipment through access holes in perimeter landscaping, interior finishes often require little or no removal.
